Main areas of collaboration have focused on welfare services (education, health and diakonia),<br \/>development and advocacy.<br \/>The Church initiated Sustainable Livelihood and Environment Program (SLEP) year 2011 as a minimalist<br \/>approach to sustainable livelihood involving direct linkage with the target group. Sustainable livelihood<br \/>is important in the gender and environment context as it is related to poverty reduction and<br \/>environment protection therefore it stresses on the reinforcement of the rights and entitlements of<br \/>everyone; the issue of inclusiveness.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-gy44aod elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"gy44aod\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-wide\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-bc42c60\" data-id=\"bc42c60\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0073403 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0073403\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">ENVIRONMENT CONSERVATION<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-60241e2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"60241e2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Since economic growth fails to trickle down, it is important to promote sustainable livelihoods, implying<br \/>an activity that provides a decent income or sustenance and provides some status along with a<br \/>meaningful life and which conserves and regenerates the environment. Therefore SLEP press for the need for a rights \u2013 based approach to gender, environment and<br \/>sustainable development where women\u2019s position can be improved by more control over resources,<br \/>redistribution of roles and tasks, a shift in stereotypes and a heather and more productive environment.<br \/>SLEP is highly accepted by the community as a means to attaining sustainable livelihoods. Train local government leaders, religion leaders, influential people and the communities on<br \/>Rights Based Approach to build their capacities both the duty bearers and rights holders.<br \/>2. Empower both men &amp; women to overcome oppressive cultural practices in all program areas.<br \/>3. Ensure women participate effectively in leadership and decision making<br \/>4. Households improve nutrition and income through the dairy heifers and dairy goats revolving<br \/>scheme established to alleviate poverty.<br \/>5. Protect environment through awareness creation to the communities on climate change,<br \/>climate justice and conservation of natural resources targeting<br \/>\uf0fc Planting trees<br \/>\uf0fc Disseminate renewable energy mainly biogas and solar to the households<br \/>\uf0fc Train communities and facilitate construction of simple energy saving stoves<br \/>6. Assist farmers to benefit from increased agricultural productivity through simple irrigation<br \/>schemes and best agricultural practices such as slurry application, contour farming, composite<br \/>making and organic farming<br \/>7. In order to ensure non-discrimination, well oriented SLEP community committees<br \/>are used to identify, motivate, suggests and shortlist applicants. These are the poor, female-headed households, people with disabilities,<br \/>widow\/widower, orphans, PLWHA and women. Likewise Gender equality<br \/>benefits both men &amp; women therefore this intervention focuses on gender justice with women<br \/>economic empowerment to encounter women economic marginalization that has been an obvious<br \/>practice in most communities for many years.<br \/>The program works with both women and men to confront gender roles stereotypes in expanding men<br \/>&amp; women\u2019s opportunities to provide for themselves. Also printing of materials with environment<br \/>7<br \/>themes. A total of 12,000 wall calendars were printed during the five years, Vitenge<br \/>3,150pairs and 1000 T-shirts pieces<br \/>\uf0b7 The ELCT earmarked a week in March every year for environment where the bible<br \/>reading talks about care for environment and the congregants are urged to plant<br \/>trees and participate in creation. ELCT SLEP has used the week to display program<br \/>activities through mass media<br \/>\uf0b7 1.7 trees of various types from timber, fruits, medicinal and ornamental trees were<br \/>planted<br \/>\uf0b7 Disseminate renewable energy mainly biogas and solar to the households. A total of<br \/>1450 biogas plants were constructed enabling the households to harness clean<br \/>energy for cooking, 1400 pieces of solar lamps and 230 solar heaters distributed to<br \/>the households<br \/>\uf0b7 Train communities and facilitate construction of simple energy saving stoves<br \/>\uf0fc Assisted 1230 farmers benefit from increased agricultural productivity through simple<br \/>irrigation schemes and best agricultural practices such as slurry application, contour<br \/>farming, composite making and organic farming<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-430a90b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\"
