ELCT PLANNING AND DEV DEPARTMENT
Introduction
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) was established on 19th June 1963 having only seven (7) dioceses with 500,000 members. To date has grown into twenty six (26) dioceses with membership of 7.5m. Generally, such expansion needs a strategic accompaniment for the church to be able to cope up with the fast changing technological advancement and volatile working environment in all aspects of life. In addition, such growth has positioned ELCT second largest church in the country after Roman Catholic. Similarly second largest church amongst Lutheran community churches in the world after the Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus of Ethiopia.

Functions of the Planning and Development Department

Lead in the Preparation, execution , follow up and evaluation of ELCT strategic Plan. Currently ELCT implement a 10 year strategic Plan(2015-2025). The strategic plan has eight main priorities.

Plan, coordinate, follow up and evaluate church developmental Programmes.

Preparing reports on the status of implementation of church Development programmes that is submitteed in the PDD Council and ELCT executive Council.

oversee the implementation of the joint training program known as the Further Training Program(FTP) and organization Development Fund(ODF)through funding support from the Lutheran Mission Cooperation(LMC)

5Monitor and coordinate the management of the church real estate properties including land, and other properties such as houses. At the moment there are 17 houses which have been rented and revenue from these properties contribute about 39% of the revenue for the ELCT hq

Coordinate Emergency Response and Disaster Mitigation for the church by working in collaboration ACT Forum Tanzania(Action by the together). When emergence occurred the church responded by providing support to the affected communities by flooding drought, eathquakes or war. This could be food and other supplies.
Sub-programs under ELCT PDD
1. Real Estate:
The real estate is under the ELCT –Planning and Development Department. Its responsible for designing and maintaining managing church properties (Land, houses ). ELCT has real estate properties such as houses which are being rented to generate income for the functioning of the office.
